Scotts Miracle-Gro expands, adds facilities
Scotts Miracle-Gro has announced it is expanding an existing manufacturing plant and adding a new office building to its 1,500-associate Marysville, Ohio, campus. It has also purchased a new 550,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing and distribution facility in Orrville, Ohio.
The projects will create about 100 jobs.
"Scotts Miracle-Gro was founded here in Marysville in 1868, and I am proud that the company's leaders have chosen to expand their commitment to this community and the State of Ohio," Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said at a ceremony to mark the expansion plans. "This has been one of Ohio's most successful companies for more than a century, and I am hopeful this planned expansion will create new jobs and contribute to the overall success of our economy."
Scotts is expanding its manufacturing facility to process a key ingredient in Scotts EZ Seed, one of the company’s most successful products. In a limited first-year release in 2009, EZ Seed led to a more than 70% increase in consumer purchases of lawn patching products. This expansion will allow Scotts to distribute EZ Seed nationally in 2010 and in Europe in 2011.
The new office building, which will reduce overcrowding in the company’s headquarters, is set to open in 2010. It will also accommodate expanded product and merchandising displays to be used in conjunction with retail partners.
The 730-acre Marysville campus houses the company's corporate headquarters, its North American consumer business, Scotts LawnService, Research & Development center and a 1 million-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility.
