Scotts Miracle-Gro expanding cannabis studies
Hawthorne Gardening Co. is partnering with Flowr Corp. for a new research facility in British Columbia.
Hawthorne Gardening Co., a subsidiary of Scotts Miracle-Gro, has partnered with the Flowr Corp. for the building of a 50,000-square-foot research facility that will focus on cannabis studies.
According to Flowr Corp., a Canadian producer of premium flowers, the new lab will test Hawthorne's lights and nutrients on cannabis, with plans to ultimately conduct more in-depth studies on the plant. The new facility will be situated in Kelowna, British Columbia where Flowr Corp. maintains a grow-op.
Currently producing 250 grams a square foot at its grow-op, Flowr said it is looking to to nearly double that number to produce some of the highest crop yields in the industry, targeting an ultimate yield of 450 grams.
Flowr Corp. reported that it has already inked supply agreements with the Ontario and British Columbia governments ahead of legalization and has secured a distribution agreement to sell medical marijuana in Germany next year.
