Retail sales slide in April
U.S. retail and food services sales for April fell 0.2% to $513.4 billion from the previous month, the Commerce Department reported.
Sales last month were up 3.1% above April 2018, however. Revised March sales were at $514.3 billion, up 1.7%.
Retail trade sales fell 0.2% in April from March but were 2.8% above the same period last year.
April sales at building material and lawn and garden retailers fell nearly 2% to $32.6 billion from sales of roughly $33 billion in March 2019.
Sales at appliance and electronics stores dropped 1.3% to $7.95 billion in April from sales of $8.06 billion in the previous month.
