REPORT: Mickelsen’s Home Center shuts its doors

6/14/2019
After 82 years of business, Mikelsen’s Home Center is closing its doors for good.

The Rexbugh, Idaho-based company said June 14 would be its last day of business, according to a report by the Standard Journal.

Owner Dave Mikelsen said the last few years of business have been “a struggle” and he was ready to let the business go.

Mickelsen points to ecommerce as part of the demise of his business with more customers making purchases online rather than stopping into the home center.

He also blamed recent municipal changes that took away some of his parking and left him with just two parking spots.

“That was the nail in the coffin,” he told the Standard Journal, noting that an expansion to a four-lane highway caused traffic to “race” past the store without stopping or seeing the signage for his business.

Mickelsen’s Home Center offered custom wood cutting, screen repair, window installment, door repairs, U-haul rentals, hardware retail, among other products and services.
