Report: Handy Hardware to close Meridian DC

Houston-based distributor Handy Hardware will close its Meridian, Miss., distribution center, according to an Associated Press report. 

The Associated Press reported that Handy Hardware plans to close its Meridian, Miss., distribution center Dec. 31, and the state of Mississippi wants to recover $3.6 million in incentives for the project.

Handy Hardware operates a main distribution center in Houston, and had described the Meridian facility as a key to expansion into southeastern states.

According to the AP story, Handy CEO Ken White said the costs to run the Meridian facility far outpaced the business that was taking place in the region.
