Readers Respond: Green light? Not so fast.

2/20/2018

[The following letter is in response to the article "The home channel's seeing green," which included the Newcandescent Rough Service light bulb.]

“As you likely know, the federal government has lamp efficiency regulations that ban the incandescent. And as you likely know, the federal government has set light bulb regulations that eliminate the incandescent lamps that we grew up with.

"Rough service bulbs are a loophole in the law.

"There is nothing green about this product. It slips through a crack in the law. Even the longer life than original incandescent bulbs is nothing green, given CFLs last 10,000 hours, and LED bulbs last 25,000+ hours. The company claims that they “fulfill all U.S. DOE regulations,” but the reality is that they exploit a loophole, violating the spirit of the law."
