Readers respond: Employee tenure

Early results from the most recent reader poll at HBSDealer.com shows that employees with four decades of experience might not be as rare as you might think.

After more than 100 votes were tallied, 37% of readers say the longest-serving employee at their company has worked for 40 or more years.

The poll question – take the poll here – asked: “For how long has the longest-serving employee worked at your company?” The second most popular answer was 30-39 years.

Here are the results as of Feb. 20:

• Fewer than 10 years: 8%;

• 10-19 years: 7%

• 20-29 years 14%;

• 30-39 years: 34%; and

• 40 or more: 37%.
