Readers Respond: $15 or bust?

Not everyone agrees that it would be wrong to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour, but most HBSDealer readers concur that it would present tough times for businesses.

In a reader poll published last week, we asked: "What would a $15 minimum wage mean for your business?"

The majority of 191 votes tallied so far have gone toward the "disaster" camp. "It would freeze hiring and risk the business altogether," agreed 62% of voters.

Another 28% opted for a middle-of-the-road response, stating that the wage hike would pose "a challenge," with the business forced to "make cuts elsewhere."

Only 10% thought it would be a "no sweat" proposition (that "hiking the wage is long overdue and won’t hurt us.")
