PPG brings color to Mexico and Colombia

2/20/2018

PPG Industries is fresh off a bout of revitalization projects in Mexico and Colombia, part of its larger Colorful Communities charity program.

PPG sent employee volunteers and paint products to the communities, where beautification projects commenced.

The locales included the La Cruz neighborhood of Itagui, Antioquia, Colombia, and San Juan del Rio, Queretaro, Mexico.

In Colombia, 30 volunteers used Comex paint to refresh the facades, windows and handrails of 98 homes in La Cruz. PPG employees also provided training to locals on managing hazardous waste generated at home.

“PPG is committed to supporting the communities where it has a presence,” said Ricardo Bribiesca, PPG general manager, Andean region. “We are proud to be able to offer our products and people in order to help our neighbors in La Cruz revitalize their area, which has been affected by poverty.”

In Mexico, volunteers helped revitalize the auditorium at Mahatma Gandhi secondary school. The local PPG plant also hosted educational events, including a science fair where students learned about the company's efforts to minimize waste, ensure safety procedures at its facilities and apply color theory in the production of its paints and coatings.

"An essential part of the PPG philosophy is to support the communities where we have a presence and where we as employees live,” said Stan Zaharewicz, PPG operations director at the San Juan del Rio facility. "The commitment of our company to San Juan del Río is reflected in the dedication our staff members have shown in support of this initiative and in the teamwork they exhibited through their volunteer efforts to make this project a success. We look forward to completing additional Colorful Communities projects locally in the future.”
