Poll results: From starts to sales
The pace of single-family housing starts – widely considered the bread and butter of the hardware and lumber yard industry — rose a healthy 6.2% in the latest residential construction tally from the U.S. Census Bureau.
(The bad news: single-family starts were down 4.3% compared to April of 2018.)
HBSDealer asked “What’s the relationship between growth in housing starts and growth in your company’s sales?”
Here are the results so far after more than 50 votes:
• 33% -- Sales grow at about the same rate.
• 25% -- No clear relationship between starts and sales
• 24% -- Sales grow slower than starts
• 18% -- Sales grow faster than starts
