Poll Question: Holiday Business Barometer
A variety of retail analysts anticipate sales gains during the holidays. The National Retail Federation expects just under 5% growth. The consultants at Deloitte look for just over 5%.
“The anticipated growth in holiday sales is likely because of solid disposable personal income growth, which we expect will be in the 5% to 5.4% range. That is above last year’s 4.7%,” said Daniel Bachman, Deloitte’s US economic forecaster. “A strong labor market should also aid retail spending, along with elevated consumer confidence and a stable personal savings rate of around 7%.”
But the holiday magic doesn’t lift everyone equally. The latest HBSDealer poll question travels along the business activity continuum from very slow to very busy. We ask: “How would you describe the level of business at your company during the holidays?
