NLBMDA webinar to analyze overtime
The Department of Labor’s overtime rule is slated to go into effect Dec. 1, and it’s already seen as a concerning regulatory overreach.
A recent poll at HBSDealer.com ranks the new rule as second only to The Affordable Care Act as a concern for business.
To bring the industry up to speed on what the rule means, the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association will host a webinar on the Department of Labor's new Overtime Rule on June 29 at 2:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time.
The NLBMDA webinar will review what has changed and what has not changed, and give a special look at the key tests that must be met in order for an employee to be classified as exempt from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
On May 18, 2016, the U.S. Department of Labor issued a new Overtime Rule affecting the regulations on overtime pay: Defining and Delimiting the Exemptions for Executive, Administrative, Professional, Outside Sales and Computer Employees. The rule increased the standard White Collar and Highly Compensated Employee salary thresholds. It also allows up to 10% of the new White Collar salary threshold to be made up by non-discretionary incentive pay. The rule with its new salary thresholds goes into effect on Dec. 1, 2016, and the thresholds will automatically increase once every three years, with the first increase set for January 2020.
The webinar is free for NLBMDA members.
Non-members can attend for a $150 fee.
The webinar will be led by Frank Moore, NLBMDA's Regulatory Counsel, who has worked with NLBMDA for the past eight years and has served in a government relations and counseling capacity for trade groups for over 25 years. He has also served as staff counsel on the former Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs in the U.S. House of Representatives.
