Night of philanthropy in Vegas

2/20/2018

Las Vegas -- It was a night of philanthropy at the Mandalay Bay, headlined by Bob Tellier and the team at Orchard Supply Hardware.

City of Hope's 2016 Spirit of Life Award Reception honored Tellier, the president of San Jose, California-based Orchard Supply. It also provided doses of inspiration and reports of progress on the fight against and other diseases.

City of Hope's Kevin Courtney, senior director of philanthropy, unveiled the cancer research and treatment center's new slogan: "The miracle of science with soul." And he explained to the hardware and home-building industry representatives in the audience: "We are here to create more miracles for more patients."

Over the years, the industry has raised $152 million for the City of Hope. And as evidence of the effort's success, the awards night in Las Vegas included a touching presentation from a 13-year-old cancer survivor, who received her treatment at the California facility and someday hopes to enter the field of children's oncology.

Tellier summed up: "This event represents a unique relationship between the home improvement industry and City of Hope."
