More employee support from Lowe’s
Lowe’s announced that it is providing its employees with additional support through a second $80 million payment.
The company also reported that it is requiring all associates to wear a face mask when working in stores or in customers’ homes.
“The changes we’ve announced today underscore our commitment to associates and our recognition of their unwavering support for our customers and communities,” said Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s CEO and president. “We know how hard associates are working to help us keep our promise to communities that we will be here for them during difficult times.
Lowe’s said that the latest payment is in recognition of its associates’ dedicated efforts and to assist with unplanned expenses and hardships. A previous $80 million payment was made in March.
This month’s payment includes all full-time hourly associates receiving $300 and all part-time and seasonal hourly associates receiving $150. Lowe’s has more than 300,000 employees.
This move increases Lowe’s contribution to associates and communities to $250 million, the Mooresville, N.C.-based company said.
Lowe’s is also offering paid time off for qualified associates and telemedicine benefits for all full-time, part-time and seasonal hourly associates and their families even if they are not enrolled in the retailer’s medical benefits plan.
The face mask requirement became effective May 1. Using a mobile app, Lowe’s store managers are also monitoring store occupancy, and limiting customer traffic when necessary to help enforce social distancing.
“We also remain steadfast in our pledge to continue to evaluate and adjust our operations to meet the evolving guidelines from the CDC and local officials around customer and associate safety,” Ellison said.
Lowe’s stores have changed layouts to allow for more space in aisles as well as installed plexiglass protective shields at all point of sale areas to protect cashiers and customers. This is in addition to curbside pick-up and at-home delivery options for online purchases nationwide.
