Millennial mortgage tracker points to all the single ladies
According to the Ellie Mae Millennial Tracker, single Millennial women are holding an outsized share of the primary borrower chart among their female peers.
The May data from the Millennial Tracker showed that although women only made up 32% of primary borrowers on closed loans, 61% of those women were single.
That's in stark contrast to male primary borrowers, who were 58% married and 41% single.
“We are seeing a significant difference in marital status between male primary borrowers and female primary borrowers,” said Joe Tyrrell, executive vice president of corporate strategy at Ellie Mae. “When women are listed as the primary borrower on a millennial loan, 61 percent of them are single. Conversely, when men are listed as the primary borrower on a millennial loan, only 41 percent of them are single.”
Additionally, the Tracker found that FHA loans continue to be the most popular among Millennials, who are defined by Ellie Mae to be those born between the years 1980 and 1999.
Regionally, Millennial borrowers are having a moment in the following top Metropolitan Statistical Areas for closed loans: Columbia, Missouri; Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
