Menards in Hoffman Estates, Ill., to close

A Menards store in Hoffman Estates, Ill., will close by the end of November, according to a report in the Chicago Daily Herald, a newspaper covering the suburbs of Chicago.

The Hoffman Estates’ village trustees announced the planned closure at a meeting held earlier this week.

Trustees said the store is set to close on Nov. 24, leaving the village without a hardware store. Notably, Sears Holdings headquarters are located in Hoffman Estates.

According to the report, 10 village officials attended the May convention of the International Council of Shopping Centers’ Global Retail Real Estate Convention in Las Vegas to speak with representatives from “several national business chains,” particularly with the hopes of securing a second hardware store for the village.

"We couldn't find anyone," trustee Karen Mills told the newspaper.
