Menards bulks up

5/25/2018
Menards is expanding all of its 300 stores in attempt to combat Amazon’s infringement on home improvement sales.

The Eau Claire, Wis. retailer wants to provide its outlets with additional space to carry products, cutting down on the need for replenishment and shipping from its distribution centers.

With stores in 14 states, Menards launched the expansion initiative nearly two years ago and hopes to have all stores completed by this year. The complete, three-part plan includes enclosing all garden centers, expanding warehouses and then expanding stores.

About 200 stores have already initiated expansion plans with another 50 to 90 stores undergoing the transformation this year.

Once the project is complete, Menards customers will no longer have to wait up to a week for some orders, according to a report in the Milwaukee Business Journal. Amazon Prime customers can receive orders the next day, in some cases.
