Meet Lowe’s longest-tenured employee
As Lowe’s brings 50,000 new associates on board for its busiest season, the retailer's longest-tenured employee has no plans to relinquish her post at the company.
Richard Nixon was still president when Judy Wood joined Lowe’s corporate general office in the spring of 1974. Wood had filled out a one-page paper application for the position in North Wilkesboro, N.C.
After a 24-year career at the general office Wood entered into a second career at Lowe’s on the sales floor. Having worked at three Lowe’s locations, Wood continues to assist customers in the flooring department of the retailer’s Elkin, N.C. location.
Regarding her lengthy career at Lowe’s, Wood says, “I never thought I would be number one.”
“I just love my Lowe’s family,” she adds.
Wood prides herself in taking care of her customers and doesn’t plan on leaving Lowe’s just yet. “They can push me around in a wheelchair,” Wood says.
