Masco names chief design officer

Taylor, Mich.-based Masco has appointed Charles Jones as chief design officer, effective May 3. He will be responsible for the global leadership of design strategies across the company’s business units.

Previously, Jones was VP global consumer design and user experience at Whirlpool. His career also includes employment at Xerox Corp., where he led the global industrial design and human interface department with locations in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.

"Chuck has a proven history of combining design and innovation to reach customers," said Donald DeMarie, executive VP and chief operating officer. "He has the experience and expertise to lead Masco's design teams around the world in delivering unique brand experiences that we believe will resonate with customers and drive market share. With the creation of this role, we are further reinforcing the importance of design as a competitive differentiator."

Jones has received more than 30 international awards for product design excellence and has been awarded more than 20 patents. He is also an active member of the Industrial Designers Society of America, the Design Management Institute, the Corporate Design Foundation and the Interaction Design Society.
