Readers unaffected by shutdown

The federal government shutdown, which began Dec. 22, continues to make news — for instance here, and here. But does it have an impact on the hardware and building supply industry? After more than 110 votes, 85% of respondents to an HBSDealer poll answered, “no.”

The official question reads: “Has the federal government shutdown affected your business?”

As of Jan. 10, the tally looks like this:
• Yes: 85%
• No: 15%

The shutdown has had an impact on U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which was scheduled to release new home sales in late December. However, a notice, published on the census.gov reads: “Due to a lapse in federal funding this website is not being updated.” No timetable is available as to when the results might be published.
