LP’s new vertical siding expands options
Pointing to a building trend that embraces the board-and-batten style, LP introduced SmartSide Vertical Siding.
Strongly suited for the board-and-batten architectural style, the new product is a treated engineered wood strand substrate with rich shadow lines and cedar-grain texture
“Builders and remodelers have been asking LP for a vertical siding that is taller than 8 feet. This 16-foot siding is LP’s response to their request. The rustic and historic beauty of board-and-batten architecture is making a strong revival across the United States. This look creates a charming, stylish aesthetic,” said Sandra Bostian, LP product manager, siding.
This panel is a no-groove square edge that measures 3/8 inches by 16 inches by 16 feet. The 16-foot length eliminates unsightly horizontal joints. This panel is most typically used with LP SmartSide 4/4-inch by 2.5-inch trim in board-and-batten applications.
The installation of this vertical siding leads to less waste on a small wall. The siding is pre-primed for exceptional paint adhesion. It works and cuts like wood and requires no special tools, unlike fiber cement. “It’s the only product like this in the category,” Bostian said.
In the past, traditional wood has often been used for board-and-batten. Treated engineered wood siding for board-and-batten projects may be less expensive than using traditional wood in material and labor costs. Traditional wood also tends to decay and is susceptible to insect penetration.
LP SmartSide vertical siding is manufactured with LP’s proprietary SmartGuard process, which provides additional strength to the substrate and helps it resist moisture, fungal decay and termite damage.
