Lowe’s takes three EPA awards
Mooresville, N.C.- based Lowe’s has recently been awarded the EPA’s 2009 WaterSense Retail Partner of the Year Award, as well as the 2009 SmartWay Transport Partnership Environmental Excellence Award. Previously, the company received the 2009 Energy Star Retail Partner of the Year Award in March.
“To be the first retailer to simultaneously hold these three awards honors our leadership role in empowering consumers to make choices that are good for their homes, their wallets and the environment,” said Nick Canter, Lowe’s executive VP merchandising. “We are proud to advance a model for conservation that benefits future generations.”
The EPA honored Lowe’s Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the WaterSmart Innovations and Conference Expo in Las Vegas for making great strides in increasing water efficiency and awareness of the WaterSense label, the company said in a release.
The company also pushed its water conservation message through its “Build Your Savings” program.
The company was awarded the SmartWay award at the American Trucking Association’s Management Conference and Exhibit in Las Vegas for implementing initiatives that resulted in reduced carbon dioxide emissions and less overall highway congestion. These included increasing shipping by rail, increasing efficiency of truckload shipments, allowing more products to be shipped on fewer trailers, and continuing to use a higher percentage of SmartWay carriers, the company said in a release.
Lowe’s has received the Energy Star award seven years in a row, and was most recently awarded the honor in March of this year for its contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
