Lowe's appoints chief risk officer

Lowe's Cos. has announced the appointment of Marshall A. Croom to senior vp and chief risk officer, effective Jan. 31. He will report to chairman and CEO Robert Niblock.

Croom will oversee and direct the management of all material risks across the company, including enterprise risk management, workers compensation, loss prevention, safety, internal audit, quality assurance and global trade services.

"Marshall is a seasoned leader and will do an outstanding job overseeing this important function for Lowe's," said Niblock. "His strong background in finance and accounting, along with more than 11 years of Lowe's corporate and operational experience, will be a tremendous asset as he partners with the leadership team to ensure Lowe's achieves its strategic vision, having fully considered both risks and rewards."

Croom was most recently senior vp-merchandising and store support. He also served as senior vp-finance, treasurer and assistant treasurer. He joined the company in 1997, after working at Ernst & Young.

Croom has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Appalachian State University.
