Lixil supports Labor Fund

Lixil Americas, the parent company of the American Standard brand of plumbing and bath products, has made a “significant donation” to the Skilled Labor Fund, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) said.

According to the National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of the NAHB, Lixil’s donation will provide scholarships and educational assistance designed to address the shortage of skilled labor entering the residential construction market.

“A continued contribution to the Skilled Labor Fund speaks to Lixil America’s strong sense of corporate responsibility in the face of the workforce shortage,” said Ted Mahoney, a member of the fund’s operating committee and chairman-elect of the endowment.

Nearly 80% of builders report shortages of workers across the 15 occupations that make up the skilled trades according to NAHB’s most recent survey data. Plumbers are no exception.

“The pain is shared by consumers and builders alike in the form of less supply, higher prices and longer lead times to complete new homes and remodeling projects,” said endowment president and CEO Mark Pursell.

"Plumbers perform vital, complex work to protect the health of the nation. Currently, millions of stable, highly-lucrative trade jobs remain unfilled, and the health of our communities is at risk,” said Steven Delarge, CEO of Lixil Americas. “This gap will continue to grow, and therefore, we must build the ‘next generation’ of trained plumbers by fostering partnerships with vocational schools as well as collaboration and outreach to other critical influencers of the building and construction industry."

The Skilled Labor Fund is a partnership of NAHB, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, the National Kitchen & Bath Association, SGC Horizon and Hydrogen, a full-service advertising agency. The Fund focuses solely on skilled labor for the residential market.
