Lights out in RONA’s lighting department

RONA is turning off the lights in its in-store lighting department -- most of them. The Canadian retailer and distributor said it is turning off three-quarters of all demonstrator lights on display in its in-store lighting departments to reduce energy consumption.

“Turning off 75 percent of our lighting units and lamps on display is another example of the steps, large and small, that we intend to take in order to keep setting the eco-responsible standard in our industry,” said Pierre Dandoy, executive vp-big-box stores at RONA.

In addition to turning most lights off, lights that remain on use compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.

The practice contributes to cooler ambient temperatures in lighting departments as well as lower electricity bills, the Boucherville, Quebec-based company said.
