Leviton products turn on the safety

2/20/2018

Melville, New York-based Leviton introduced a new combination AFCI/Switch and GFCI with audible trip alert enhance safety offering.

Leviton’s two new innovative safety devices are designed to help protect people and property in accordance with current National Electrical Code requirements.

The SmartlockPro Combination AFCI/Switch provides the convenience of arc-fault protection and a single pole switch to control lighting loads in one device. The AFCI is designed to detect a wide range of dangerous arcing electrical faults and, when detected, functions by interrupting power to help prevent arc-faults from igniting a fire. The Combination AFCI/Switch is an easy way to incorporate AFCI protection into existing homes either as a replacement switch or for extensions or modifications. It is ideal for kitchens, family rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways.

The SmartlockPro GFCI with Audible Trip Alert indicates that the GFCI has tripped by sounding an audible alarm, alerting users to interruption of power on vital operating systems like freezers, sump pumps and sprinkler systems. The audible alert signals that power has been disconnected from loads plugged into or fed from the GFCI so users can immediately assess the reason and reset the device. Such protection is now required by Code in garages, basements and commercial kitchens since GFCIs in these locations may be in an out-of-the-way place such as a back corner or storage area making daily visual checks for tripping unlikely.

“AFCIs and GFCIs are two of the most important electrical safety devices a home or commercial property can have,” said Bill Grande, Leviton’s Director of Safety Products. “By continuously enhancing the features of these SmartlockPro devices, Leviton offers its customers the most advanced protection on the market.”
