Kidde recalls smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Mebane, N.C.-based Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc. is recalling its Kidde-branded smoke and combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, citing a tendency for the alarms to malfunction in the wake of a power outage.
Affected units include Kidde residential smoke alarm model i12010S (manufactured between Dec. 18, 2013 and May 13, 2014); combination smoke/CO alarm il2010SCO (manufactured between Dec. 30, 2013 and May 13, 2014); and combination smoke/CO alarm model KN-COSM-IBA (manufactured between Oct. 22, 2013 and May 13, 2014).
Consumers are being urged to contact Kidde for a free replacement. However, they should continue using the recalled alarms until the replacement is installed.
The recall affects about 1.2 million units in the United States and 112,000 in Canada.
There have been no incidents or injuries reported.
