June single-family home sales up 11%
Sales of new one-family houses in June increased 11% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 384,000, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The figure is the highest since a pace of 390,000 in November 2008. June new home sales were still down compared with 2008, when the measure stood at 488,000.
The government data also showed the median sales price of new houses sold in June 2009 was $206,200. In June 2008, the median price stood at $234,000. Last month, it was $219,000.
The month-over-month decline in the median price of new houses ended what was a three-month streak of increasing prices.
