IKEA sets sights on Indiana
As part of its efforts to expand in the Midwest, IKEA is planning to open up its first Indiana location in the City of Fishers.
The proposed 296,000-sq.-ft. store would be located 15 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis, sitting on 35 acres near Interstate 69 just south of the E. 116th Street exit.
“We are excited at the prospect of growing our Midwest presence with an Indianapolis-area store,” said IKEA U.S. president Lars Petersson. “A location in this retail corridor would provide our already 184,000 Indianapolis-area customers their own store and would introduce the unique IKEA shopping experience to other consumers throughout Indiana.”
Pending approvals, construction could begin as early as Summer 2016, with a projected Fall 2017 opening.
Currently, the closest existing IKEA locations include the Cincinnati-area store in West Chester, OH; and Chicago-area IKEA Bolingbrook and IKEA Schaumburg.
IKEA currently operates more than 370 stores in 48 countries, including 41 in the U.S.
