Homeowners show off their bricks
Port Charlotte, Florida-based Olde World Stone and Tile Mold Inc. set out to show how DIYers can make their own stone, tile, pavers, or bricks by using Olde World Molds.
The results are in, and so are the results of the company's 2015 DIY Cutsomer Project Contest.
The contest was open to customers who used Olde World Molds and/or other company products to make stone, tile, pavers, bricks, etc., for home improvement or garden projects through 2015.
"We conceived of this contest to illustrate how a typical homeowner could make their own concrete stone, pavers, tile and brick veneer products right at home, saving 90% of the retail cost by doing it themselves," said Olde World President John Panagos. "I must admit that even after 24 years in business, I was surprised at the professional results most of our customers' projects exhibited. When you consider that most customers had never worked with concrete or molds before, their project results were amazing. We are so proud to showcase these examples of do-it-yourself craftsmanship and ingenuity on our websites."
Votes were cast by the public by visiting the contest website and picking favorite projects each month. All Voters were entered into a monthly drawing for $25.00 Restaurant Gift Cards. Names were randomly drawn from each category each month. The monthly winners were notified by email and chose from any restaurant chain offering Gift Cards.
The Grand Prize check for $1,000.00, was awarded to Leslie Boss, Hampton, NJ. Her winning entries were custom-designed stepping stones and wall plaques she makes for her customers.
Other winning entries included:
• Victorian Feather design tiles on a home's 1,300 sq. ft. terrace.
• A family project consisting of 1,000 sq. ft. patio and walk of various-sized cobblestones.
• A Ledgestone home siding cost $540.00 to make and install, compared to a contractor's quote of about $7,000, the company said.
A 2016 contest is in the works.
