Home Depot Foundation donates to veterans nonprofit

The Home Depot has donated $81,000 to a rural retreat for wounded veterans and their families. The money will go toward building a barn and run-in for horses, as well as some garden project at the Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness.

"From the time The Home Depot's very first store opened, giving back has been a core value of the company," Home Depot Foundation executive director Gaven Gregory said. "We are proud to work with Boulder Crest Retreat in our efforts to give back to those men and women who have so bravely served our country." 

The retreat, located in Bluemont, Virginia, is a 37-acre space 50 miles from the nation’s capital that lets wounded active duty and retired soldiers stay for free with their families. It opened in September 2013 and offers activities like equine therapy, hiking and fishing to help families reconnect. 

"We are extremely grateful to The Home Depot Foundation for this very generous donation and their support of Boulder Crest Retreat," retreat founder Ken Falke said. “Home Depot is one of the most generous companies in the military and veteran space and we are humbled to add them to an august list of donors."
