Here’s the advance monthly sales for August
Building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers – NAICS 444 retailers – showed gains on a monthly and annual basis, according to the Advance Monthly Sales report from the U.S. Census Bureau.
NAICS 444 dealers were up 1.4% compared to July 2019 and up 1.0% compared to the same month a year ago. The annual performance of the industry was outpaced by most other sectors, according to the report. Big gains were notched by nonstore retailers – up 16% compared to a year ago, and motor vehicle and parts dealers gained 6.8%.
On a monthly basis, the building supply industry (including home centers and hardware stores) grew faster than most other retail categories.

All told, advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for August 2019, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $526.1 billion, an increase of 0.4% from the previous month, and 4.1%above August 2018.
Total sales for the June 2019 through August 2019 period were up 3.7% from the same period a year ago.
