New York City -- After opening its first Lowe's in Manhattan late last year on the Upper West Side, the Mooresville, North Carolina-based retail giant turned its attention to the Chelsea neighborhood.

The new store here at 19th Street and Sixth Avenue measures in at about 30,000 sq. ft. on two floors. It's part showroom, part gallery, part hardware store. And while parking is limited (non-existent), it's a beauty of a store.

On a recent visit, the front doors on Sixth Avenue opened into a lush room of plants, complete with a potting station and some home storage displays. Also on the first floor are building supplies, electrical and home comfort. Up the steps reveals an elegant collection of kitchen and bath vignettes, along with flooring and large appliances.

To serve its car-challenged New York customers, the store offers a $21 same-day delivery deal. And for all customers, there's a low-price match that throws in an extra 10% discount if a product is found for less elsewhere.
