Gas trimmers recalled over fire hazard

2/20/2018

A number of efco Gas Trimmers are being recalled again after it became apparent that the engine muffler can break during use, posing a fire hazard.

The gas trimmers were previously recalled in December 2013 for the same reason, at which time eight incident reports had been received.

Currently, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is reporting 11 total reports of muffle failure, including two that resulted in singed hair.

The trimmers in question -- 1,900 units in the U.S. and 200 in Canada -- are used in both residential and commercial applications. They are red and gray, measuring about 72" long and up to 28" wide: 36cc models 8371 S and 8371 T, and a 40.2cc model 8421 T engine displacement.

They were sold at authorized efco dealers and Menard retail stores nationwide and online between June 2009 and July 2014.

Consumers are being urged to stop using the trimmers immediately and return them to an authorized efco dealer for a free replacement.
