Firefighters and LBM in Indiana

6/7/2018
A new law on the books in Indiana will require firefighters to know what a newly constructed home or building is composed of.

Effective July 1, the law requires builders who file a permit to tell their local fire department and other first responders if they are building homes or apartments with materials including engineered or pressed wood that can burn faster.

Proponents of the law say that EWP or pressed wood products burn faster and are also known to collapse more quickly than other materials, resulting in the deaths of numerous firefighters in the state.

The law is not retroactive to prior construction, according to a report by WISHTV.com.
