Envision decking reports big recycling numbers
The total weight of recycled materials is equivalent to more than 700 blue whales.
Envision decking has released new sustainability numbers in regard to the production of its composite product.
The decking brand said that it has 215.8 million pounds of recycled materials into its products between 2013 and 2018.
The numbers represent material that may otherwise have ended up in a landfill, including more than 144 million pounds of recycled sawdust, and more than 71 million pounds of recycled plastics between 2013 and 2018.
The total weight of these materials is equivalent to more than 700 blue whales, the heaviest animal on Earth. Envision deck boards consist of more than 80% recycled content, the Lamar, Mo.-based manufacturer said.
“Envision is committed to producing the most beautiful low-maintenance decking you can buy, and doing it in a way that is responsible and sustainable for the long-term,” said Shara Gamble, Envision director of sales and marketing. “We are proud of our use of recycled materials and are continuously looking to reduce our consumption of natural resources and reuse wherever we can.”
During the time period, the Envision decking business also reused 6 million pounds of composite material by reintroducing boards that did not meet the company’s high standards of quality back into the manufacturing process to be made into beautiful decking. Without a reuse program, many times, off-spec production in the building products industry ends up in a landfill, the company said.
Materials that the Envision decking business couldn’t recycle into its own products were sent to a local recycler for their sustainability efforts, including 350,000 pounds of items such as cardboard boxes and other shipping materials that were turned into paper products and other building materials.
The brand includes Envision Distinction, Envision Inspiration and Envision Expression, and the Classic EverGrain line. The Envision decking business also manufacturers railing systems, including Marquee Railing and TAM- RAIL.
