Energy Star shines for Home Depot

The Home Depot has earned a 2014 Energy Star Partner of the Year -- Sustained Excellence award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which cited its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the promotion of energy-efficient products.

"Our customers are increasingly looking for products that have earned the Energy Star," said Ron Jarvis, VP Environmental. "Our partnership with Energy Star allows us to offer our customers high quality, energy-efficient products that will also save them money on their energy bills."

Home Depot has been an Energy Star partner since 2001 and has since made significant strides in the realm of energy efficiency, ranging from increasing its Energy Star-rated product assortment to building consumer awareness of and demand for Energy Star.

According to the retailer, Home Depot helped customers save nearly $770 million in annual utility costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 4.7 million metric tons.

Home Depot will be officially honored by the EPA in Washington, D.C. on April 29.
