Electrical fire destroys Oregon door shop

2/20/2018

Apossible electrical fire destroyed Davis Finish Products, a cabinet and door shop in White City, Ore., on July 9, according to an article in the Oregon Mail Tribune.

The blaze started sometime after 3 p.m., when the shop had closed for the weekend. Firefighters, who received a report of smoke coming from the building, arrived on the scene shortly after 4:30 p.m. But within minutes the fire engulfed a showroom, production area, office and delivery terminal. The company’s 140,000-sq.-ft. facility, situated on 17.5 acres, was left in a rubble. Also destroyed were a van, pickup truck, three delivery trucks and two forklifts.

"Electrical fires are always a danger," business owner Bud Davis told the newspaper. "There's always a certain amount of dust with what we're doing, and there is lot of kiln-dried wood and lumber and lots of plywood sheets.”

Davis said he is already looking for a new location through a realtor and hopes to obtain some equipment -- a couple of table saws, shavers, routers and a door machine, to start -- so he can begin filling orders. "I've contacted most of my employees and told them, 'Don't jump ship,' " Davis said.
