6/5/2018
Deere & Company, the makers of John Deere tractors and mowers, is looking to be a solid corporate citizen and has released a set of sustainability goals.

The Moline, Ill.-based manufacturers said it hopes to complete the plan by the end of its fiscal year 2022.

"The 2022 Sustainability Goals address John Deere's commitment to an ever-changing world and the need to protect its most valuable resources – both natural and human," said Samuel Allen, chairman and chief executive officer of Deere & Company. "The goals will spur improvements in performance and innovation."

Deere said it hopes to achieve safety excellence through increased focus on leading indicators, risk reduction, health and safety management systems, and prevention.

Regarding energy use, the company wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% through the use of a 50% renewable electricity supply and excellence in energy efficiency. Deere also plans to implement best management water practices at 100% of its water-scarce manufacturing locations.

Additional goals include recycling 85% of total waste created by the company and reducing CO2e emissions on 90% of its new products. Deere will also increase the use of sustainable materials by growing its remanufacturing and increasing recyclable and renewable content.

A detailed report of Deere & Company’s sustainability goals can be found on its "Citizen and Sustainability" page.
