Deere announces layoffs
Deere & Co. has announced that 367 manufacturing employees of the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Ill., will be indefinitely laid off, effective Sept. 21. The company cited reduced market demand for the factory's products.
The layoffs affect workers with the least seniority. Most of the remaining employees at Harvester Works will start four weeks of inventory adjustment shutdown and two weeks of vacation shutdown on Sept. 21.
The John Deere Harvester Works manufactures combines and front-end equipment for harvesting.
