Crescent wrench turns 100

2/20/2018

Apex, N.C. —based Cooper Hand Tools is celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the adjustable wrench and the Crescent brand that made it famous. The Crescent Tool Co. came into being in 1907, the same year it introduced the innovative adjustable wrench.

Cooper Industries, the parent of Cooper Hand Tools, acquired the Crescent brand in 1968.

“As we celebrate our heritage today, we remain committed to the principle that innovation is our lifeblood,” said Kirk Hachigian, chairman and CEO of Cooper Industries, in a prepared statement.

One of the company’s more recent product innovations is the Crescent Brand RapidSlide Adjustable Wrench. Rather than a screw-like turning adjuster, the Rapidslide incorporates a sliding adjuster along the handle of the wrench for quicker jaw adjustment.

Other brands in the Cooper Hand Tools fold include Lufkin measuring products; Nicholson files, rasps and saws; and Weller soldering tools.
