Central Garden & Pet buys Bell Nursery Holdings
Bell Nursery is the largest commercial growers of flowers and plants in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Central Garden & Pet Company has acquired Bell Nursery Holdings, LLC, one of the largest commercial growers of flowers and plants in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Headquartered in Elkridge, Md., Bell and has facilities in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Delaware. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are excited to add Bell Nursery’s live plant business to Central’s broad garden products portfolio,” said George Roeth, president and CEO of Central Garden & Pet. “We view the live plant area as an attractive growth opportunity that is growing faster than the overall garden industry and is synergistic with our existing garden portfolio.
Roeth said Bell’s management team will remain with the company.
Based in Walnut Creek, Calif., Central Garden & Pet Company manufactures and distributes branded and private label products for the lawn and garden and pet supplies markets.
Last month Central Garden & Pet reported first quarter 2018 total net sales increased 5.4% to $442.0 million compared to $419.5 million in the first quarter a year ago. The company reported that the increase was primarily driven by acquisitions while organic sales increased 1.1%.
