Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Central Garden & Pet Co. (CG&P) has purchased the remaining majority interest in New York-based FourStar Microbial Products.
The move is expected to complement CG&P’s mosquito control business.
FourStar microbial products are derived from naturally occurring soil bacteria and stop juvenile mosquitoes from emerging into flying and breeding adult flying insects that can bite and spread disease. The product’s residual lasts from seven to 180 days and is formulated into granules and briquets for ease of application into various mosquito breeding sites.
“Our Altosid product line set the standard for controlling juvenile mosquitoes and created the insect growth regulator category,” said Frank Jusich, SVP professional brands for CG&P. “With the addition three years ago of Zenivex products to stop adult mosquitoes and the current addition of the B2E FourStar microbials, Central will have a full range of products to help mosquito control professionals protect the public from West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and other mosquito-borne diseases.”
CG&P is a marketer and producer of products for the lawn and garden and pet supplies markets.
