Cap-Tor screws designed for capstock decking
Edison, NJ.-based Starborn Industries Inc., a manufacturer of fasteners and related products for the building industry, introduced Cap-Tor, a new high-performance fastener specifically designed for use with the newest type of capstock (co-extruded) decking.
The product also works with more traditional composite decking materials, the company said.
The specially engineered head and thread design of Cap-Tor screws mitigate the common challenges associated with fastening capstock decking. These problems include curled waste (shards of attached decking that form around the screw head), dimpling (the “caving in” of the deck board around the screw head), and white shear (a white discoloration around the screw head caused by the fastener stretching the hard outer shell of the decking).
“New types of PVC and composite decking are introduced regularly,” said Larry Crossley, VP sales at Starborn Industries, in a prepared statement. “Starborn prides itself on its ability to keep up with the rapidly changing decking market. Cap-Tor is a perfect example of that.”
Cap-Tor was engineered by Starborn Industries with a head that cleanly penetrates the hard outer layer of capstock products to ensure a clean tight fit. It is available in stainless and epoxy-coated steel and in 10 different colors.
