Builders FirstSource earns FSC certification
Builders FirstSource will begin distributing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified building materials on a broker basis, the company announced, after completing the organization’s chain-of-custody requirements. The Dallas-based LBM chain, which has expanded its presence in the commercial, military housing and multi-family markets, will now be able to directly source building materials for projects earning points in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) designations or other green building program standards.
“The greening of America has occurred rapidly, and we’ve been getting more and more requests [for FSC-certified> products from our customers,” Matt Liska, VP sales, told Home Channel News. In response, Builders FirstSource’s IT and purchasing departments have developed a chain-of-custody documentation process, approved through SGS South Africa (Pty), that allows it to source and then deliver products without having to bring the materials through the company’s facilities.
“We’ll become the broker for our customers,” Liska explained. The pro dealer is already “ramping up rapidly” in terms of sources, he added. “We’ll have all the [FSC> mills on our radar.”
Listed in ninth place on the Home Channel News Top 350 Pro Dealer Scoreboard, Builders FirstSource operates 55 lumberyards and 51 manufacturing plants in nine states, primarily in the southern and eastern United States.
