BBB expands its key cutting service

2/20/2018

KeyMe Locksmith Box kiosks are sprouting in more Bed Bath & Beyond locations – expanding their footprint to 470 locations.

The key duplication service, typically a core department among hardware stores and home centers, was first introduced into Bed Bath & Beyond stores in January 2015. From six units in the New York market, the KeyMe service gradually increased to 70 stores around the county.

KeyMe says it is attempting to provide convenience for people who move from one residence to another.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 11% of Americans moved into a new home last year. Along with this change in residence comes the need to restock on common household items, including new and duplicate keys, the company says.

"It is important to be in places where people can easily benefit from a smart way to access and manage their keys, especially those moving into a new home,” said Greg Marsh, KeyMe CEO.

According to KeyMe, “the kiosks employ a sophisticated artificial intelligence with computer vision to bring robotics to the field, effectively eliminating human error in the key duplication process.
