Appliances: The good, the bad and the reliable
Purchasing a major appliance can be more than a major expenditure for the average checking account.
Whether it’s a washer, dryer, refrigerator, or range, consumers want a product that is not only reliable, but holds up over time. But when it’s time to replace an appliance, shoppers are often attracted to the brands they trust and the product that will give them the biggest bang for their buck.
Enter Consumer Reports who has put together its first-ever Appliance Brand Reliability Rankings. The list was put together from 381,000 appliance purchases made between 2018 and 2019.
Appliance buyers were asked how many times the products they own broke or stopped working as well as they should. Data was then used to estimate how new models from a given brand will hold up over the first five years.
Major brands included in the study include Amana, Bosch, Frigidaire GE, Kenmore, KitchenAid, LG, Maytag, Speed Queen, Samsung, Viking, and Whirlpool, among others.
