An Award for Arrow Fastener chief
From the The Record of Bergen County, N.J., to Barron’s, Arrow Fastener Co. President Gary Duboff has been a go-to-guy for first-person analysis of the impact of tariffs. And now, he’s been recognized as a leader in the fight to mitigate the impact of tariffs for his company – and for his state.
The New Jersey Business & Industry Association awarded Duboff an “Executive of the Year” award. The award recognizes outstanding businesses and leaders who have demonstrated exemplary leadership while achieving business success and have helped to improve the business climate and quality of life in New Jersey.
“Under Gary Duboff’s leadership, Arrow Fastener has kept the manufacturing of its stapling tools and heavy-duty staples in Bergen County, New Jersey, making Arrow the only company still manufacturing these products in the U.S.,” said NJBIA President & CEO Michele Siekerka. “His dedication to keeping Arrow’s manufacturing base in New Jersey has not only saved hundreds of existing jobs in Bergen County but has created over 50 new employment opportunities for area residents.”
When the U.S. government imposed in 2018 a 10% tariff on the steel needed to make those staples, Duboff became a vocal and visible New Jersey business leader on the impact of tariffs on the state’s manufacturing infrastructure. He fought for and won a government exclusion on the tariffs for Arrow’s imported steel – saving over 100 jobs at the Arrow plant. Today, despite unrelenting pressure from foreign competitors, 70% of Arrow’s revenues come from products still made in the Saddle Brook, N.J., manufacturing center.
Duboff told HBSDealer that he receives numerous invitations from local and national media to weigh in on the topic of tariffs. It’s topic that he described as difficult to predict and unlikely to go away any time soon.
In 2017, Duboff led the $125 million sale of Arrow to Chinese manufacturer Hangzhou GreatStar Industrial Company, Ltd., based in Hangzhou, China. With about $7 billion in annual revenues, GreatStar is one of the largest hand tool manufacturers in the world. Duboff worked with GreatStar to consolidate its US operations in Arrow’s NJ facility, providing all distribution, logistics, finance, marketing, and HR support through the Arrow headquarters. He also added two new product lines – Pony Jorgensen woodworking clamps, and Goldblatt concrete, masonry, tile, and drywall tools - to the company’s brand portfolio.
Now celebrating its 90th year in business, Arrow Fastener’s most iconic product – the T50 staple gun -- is made in the company’s Saddle Brook, N.J., factory.
The company offers a full range of project solutions, including a line of electric and manual staple guns and brad nail guns as well as rivet tools, glue guns, and hammer tackers, and a full line of glue sticks, staples and fasteners to match. Arrow also recently received an HBSDealer Golden Hammer Award for its GT30Li Lithium Ion Cordless Glue Gun.
The New Jersey business awards were presented to 15 companies and five executives at a reception at the Bridgewater Marriott on Oct. 29.
