AmericanFlags.com sees run on 'Stars and Bars'
It’s busy flag-buying buying season. And for Holbrook, New York-based AmericanFlags.com, Confederate flags are leading the charge. A voice message at the company’s call center described the peak season for flag orders. Furthermore, there has been “exceptionally high” order volume for Confederate Flags.
The online retailer describes itself as “the nation’s largest retailer of American flags.” The company could not be reached to comment further on flag demand. But in a press release promotion Made-in-USA flags, President and CEO Jeffrey Reynolds described steady growth for the flag business.
"While nothing could compare to the demand for American flags we saw in the days, weeks and months following 9/11," said Reynolds, "our company has seen a steady increase in flag sales and so far this year, demand is up more than 20%, probably due to the presidential campaigns."
The company’s press release also points out the laws in place to promote Made-in-USA flags.
“Federal law requires country of origin labeling on most flags and in 2014, federal lawmakers passed legislation allowing the U.S. Department of Defense to buy only American-made flags for our nation's armed forces. Several states, including Florida, have imposed flag-buying guidelines for their government agencies and such legislation is pending in about a dozen other states, including New York.”
