Adhesives stick to the script: Simplify
LAS VEGAS — In the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center, in the shadow of temporary show homes, two small booths sang a tune of multipurpose simplicity for the adhesives category.
At the Liquid Nails exhibit, the star attraction was the new Fuze*It brand, which was described as the one do-it-all adhesive to replace all those other specialty adhesive tubes. The formula was developed with the help of Liquid Nails parent PPG’s aerospace division, giving the marketing team a dose of rocket science. A demonstration of wood, glass, metal and plastic fused together emphasized the products’ utility on most surfaces.
Fuze*It is a hybrid polymer that bonds in a wide range of temperatures.
“The marketplace is always looking for more versatile products that are highly effective and save time,” said Mark Hembree, senior marketing manager for PPG.
Around the corner and past a display home, the Loctite exhibit was promoting an all-surface, all-weather, all-around construction adhesive called Loctite Power Grab. Particularly compelling was a demonstration of the under-water abilities of the adhesive. (Two bricks were successfully fused while submerged in a large fish tank.)
The multi-purpose adhesive promotes its ability to bond two non-porous surfaces. Loctite’s product also applies in a wide range of temperatures — and is repositionable for 10 minutes.
All conditions, all weather, all materials — this appears to be the mantra of a new generation of products that aim to simplify.
